new phone options

notheather

Hi,
I am shopping for a new phone. Here are options I need
1. camera
2. pc sync
here are the options i want:
mp3 player
polyphonic ringtones
verizon carrier
bluetooth (tho I don't know if i need it)

the reason i want verizon as my carrier is because I already have verizon, and i know it's features in my area and around the country. i also have another phone (a verizon only phone) that i would like to use on the same plan for emergencies.

the only phone that fits this criteria is the v710.. i have read some bad things. should i bite the bullet and change my plan, buy 2 phones on another plan? i hate to go into the shops asking that question, bc i know what the sales guy will tell me.... any thoughts?

thanks,
Theresa

The v710 phone has some issues, the real question is will those issues affect your use. They do NOT affect mine and I love the phone. I do not care about bluetooth but I might try a headset. The cam is not bad considering it is a phone. Every other phone cam I have seen takes much worse pics but that does not mean that this one is best. It is a phone, if you want real good photos, use a real camera. You probably read about some of the camera tilt issues and the phones are currently unavailable due to VZW and Moto trying to fix that. The phones should be available again soon. My phone cam has a slight tilt but it does not affect photos. The images inside are not great but the ones in good light are decent and look better when transfered ...

Thanks! it sounds like exactly what i need. i just need to have my calendar/contacts in the phone, and i would like to pics for documentation - not for art. ring tones are a plus, and the speaker phone is great! the bluetooth thing was just a plus, as i had to look up what it was to know if i actually wanted it. i think i will go ahead and order the phone, and stick with my verizon service.

Hey redrockhiker

A voice of reason

I too love this phone. I am a gadget guy at heart and have owned many phones in the last couple of years that did nothing for me - the 60 series (I had a c and an i ) was a work horse but boring. the t 720 and 30 had some interesting features but sucked for reception and all around performance,
the 710 is a fun and versitile phone that i find myself playing with too much. it is customizable and sturdy -- it has the best reception i have ever had ( my work phone is now a qwest but was a cingular and a nextel before that and they all suck)
the bluetooth headset ( i have the 810) is fun and reliable. I have a tungsten t3 and the commuication between the two for internet surfing is great (hope that a ...

Good info on this thread. Can someone confirm for me that the V710 can sync with outlook on my pc without a bunch of add-on software/firmware/third party cables etc? Also, can I check my Yahoo! mail like I can with the LG 7000?

Thx for the help. If it can do these two things, the V710 is a great device.

The v710 syncs fine with outlook through the MPT software. It transfered all my contacts with no problem at all.

Yes it does. Read the thread (yes, THIS thread), do a search. This has been covered so many times.

My guess is if your TV remote broke, you'd watch whatever was on the current channel because you are probably too lazy to get up and change the channel OR go out and get a new remote!

There is a search field at the bottom of the page - you will type a two or three sentence question post but you are apparently too lazy to type two or three words into a search field.

Well, nice attempt at a flame, Retroditchdigger. Nice until you responded to the next question which is why I asked mine. I know the spec's say mpt can sync with Outlook. All the threads here focus on contact sync, not calendar, and from HoFo, I know there are prob's with the calendar. That's why I asked if a real person on this board had successfully sync'd Outlook calendar.

Shoot first, think later. Let us know how that's working out for you.

I was being nice! I wrote much worse and cleared twice. There are over 500 pages of posts here and over 200 user reviews. Issues like calendar sync have been discussed to death. I did not want to flame but I and many others here are happy to help people with what we have learned. It is just really annoying when people can't be bothered to take one minute and look for the answer before asking.

You kind of come across like the guy who walked into a supermarket and asked if they sell groceries.

So before you try to tell someone to shoot first and then think, especially when that person you are telling has already spent more hours here helping more people with intellegent questions then you have spent thinking intellegent thoughts - w...

redrockhiker, do you realize that in the time you took to tell davepda to find the answer in other forums, you could have easily answered their question? You even 'cleared' what you wrote TWICE, and then rewrote it! It's almost like you were trying to upset them.

For someone who has "spent more hours here helping more people with intellegent questions then you have spent thinking intellegent thoughts", you not only were unhelpful to davepda, but also pretty hostile.

I'm not trying to upset you or 'start' anything with you. I just hope that you can realize that you could have easily either 1.) ignored davepda's question, or 2.) answered it.

Either way, I hope that davepda got their question answered, AND that you continue to help...

1) you are re-raising an issue that is over 2 weeks old? What possible good or positive could ever come from re-raising a non-productive issue.
2) In the time it took me... you have just spent almost as much time as I did to re-raise the issue with no possible gain to anyone and absolutely zero contribution to this forum.
3)As long as you bothered to read one post and re-raise it from two weeks ago to attempt to criticize - you might as well take enough time to read the ENTIRE thread. If you had done so, you would have noticed a couple of minor things like: I DID answer davepda's question in the second post of the thread (first reply to the original post), I not only answered his question once - but did so again in my second post which ...

Jesus, you couldn't pay me to read such a large post! And just from skimming it, it seems to not say much.. No offence of course 😉

Daveyp225: what version of outlook are you running? I simply cannot get mine to sync with outlook 2003 under XP. I have tried it on two separate machines with no luck. MPT finds the phone fine but just disappears when I try to sync.

1) have you run "live update" as differentiated from "update" to at least version 2.21f?

2)are you sure you have the v710 driver? It does not come with MPT at least not up to version 2.21f. The driver may or may not be in version 3.11.

If you still have questions, go to Howardforums.com and do a search for mobile phone tools, mpt, and/or outlook sync and limit the search to the "temporary v710 discussion" under the verizon forum. There you will find step by step instructions with links to the drivers. Read the results of those searches and you will be an expert.
