Verizon Bluetooth problem solved

wnrussell

Today I got the straight scoop from a Verizon tech. Since we have all been led to believe that this Bluetooth problem was going to be corrected with new firmware, and now it is not, Verizon will still give a full refund on the phone right now. My store confirmed this.

If you buy an unbranded tri-mode, CDMA V710 direct from Motorola, Verizon will put that phone on their network now and support it. I have not yet researched the cost implications, but was assured that all of the Bluetooth functionality will be there, except for the "insurance option" for accidental damage.

Didn't somebody post a link where the unbranded phone can be purchased.

The tech says Moto sells them now. I also saw a link on www.howardforums.com a while ago.

Yeah but how is that legal? I mean Moto had to have signed some sort of deal that prevented them from implementing BT file transfer. Moto just cant undercut VZW like that. If someone finds this link that allows me to get an unbranded v710 please post it. I just checked on the Moto website and they direct you to VZW stores... 😕

Probably is legal becauase moto is allowed to sell a CDMA phone from themselves for customers to do with what they please. Verizon is not the only CDMA service that could use that phone. It is possible, and I myself would love that link.

The only thing is, is that because it's not a VZW phone, it may not support all teh functions of the VZW network.

VZW is almost certainly trying to avoid the Class Action Lawsuit that is coming their way.

So what you're saying is that I can get a v710 straight from Motorola and the bluetooth will be fully enabled? What about the camera quality?

The hardware is the same. VZW can't change that. They will transfer your contact list to the new phone for you at the store though.

I purchased my v710 direct from motorola, I had already purchased one at full retail from verizon and radio shack, originally returned the radio shack because vzw was cheaper and then returned the vzw because moto was cheaper. The phone is branded with VZW and even came direct from motorola in a VZW box. The phone is identical to the previous 2 v710s I had in every way.

Get one, and get it to the hackers on HoFo... see if we can't extract a firmware flash from it. 🙂

Motorola makes the V710 for AllTel, Verizon and US Cellular. You didn't have to buy the branded phone. Only VZW cripples the Bluetooth.

yeah, i saw that, and they replied to that, and that my be in his case because his store manager kept telling him to wait, the only thing i can say, because i work in cust service, is you only had the 15 wfg and so it would be up to that individual store and that manager...

Not trying to argue, that is just verizon policy. thats why i said it's worth a try and its a case by case basis, for that store, and by the manager of that store

They won't take it back as in getting a refund or changing for a different make or model, just exchange it for a new 710 that they fixed the issue on.

there's an easy way to switch the phone...

get VZW to give me a new phone with the issue fixed, the buy a new non VZW phone, and pawn the current one on ebay. that works for me.

I bought mine on August 8th and as soon as I found out about the BT problem, the store manager just kept saying wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, so they will waive the 15 day return policy if you were suckered into waiting for the firmware upgrade.

FYI---for what it's worth...this is a reply from Moto to my email:

Hi:
Currently. I own a Verizon branded V710 with the camera lens issue. I know that Verizon will exchange the defective camera after October 25. Also, through the grapevine I've heard that they will now accept an unbranded V710 with full Bluetooth functionality on their network. Is it possible for me to exchange my V710 through Motorola for one that has the fixed camera lens and unrestricted Bluetooth? Thanks.

Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support, we appreciate your request.

Thank you very much for your considerations and interest in our products.

Regarding your request, the upgrade of the Motorola v710 software for the unrestricted bluetooth capabil...

VZW will also accept the return as a warranty claim. If you present your case as a defect in the Bluetooth, that it won't synch with your car or something, they must either give you a fully functioning phone or return your money.

Since the warranty lasts a year, I've had my customer record documented so I have that option.

With the recall and camera problem, it might be worth the wait for everything to be fixed at once, or maybe another BT model is coming along.
