I miss my Sony Ericsson... This Motorola doesn't seem to be well thought out.

1) There's no autolocking of the external keypad. You have to manually lock it by pressing down-star every time you put it in your pocket. That's annoying!

2) No recurring alarms. Each time the alarm goes off, you have the option of snooze or disable. If you disable, it won't ring again until you enable it again. Menu-diving stinks. It should have recurrent options.

3) No "notepad" feature to make a to-do list for yourself.

4) Voice recorder doesn't play on speakerphone. To control it you have to open the clamshell, but to hear it you have to close it... back and forth.. what the heck were they thinking? Did they test it?

5) No ringer profiles....

Kinso thanks for the info on the phone. I was reading the user manual and noticed under "Messages" there was an option for "Quick Notes". Do you find that option on your phone? If it is there does this function work like a notepad?

Taking notes is the one thing I really wanted this phone for.

Thanks

"Quick Notes" is just a list of words/phrases/etc that you can use when you want to quickly add some prewritten text to a text message. I don't think this would be useful as a notepad of to-do's.

But you could always write a short text message addressed to yourself with whatever to-do you want. You don't even have to send it; just save it as a Draft.

Or, if you want to go in a slightly different direction, you can use the Voice Recorder and make audio notes to yourself.

The "Drafts" function doesn't let you save drafts of text messages. It forces you to send the text message after you write it. Maybe it's intended for email use, but since I don't have an email server set up, it gives me an error message.

The voice recorder is annoying to use because to play it, you have to navigate using the open clamshell position, but it doesn't play on the speakerphone. So, you have to quickly put it up to your ear to listen to what you recorded... back and forth... annoyyyying

It was driving me crazy that this phone had a 'drafts' item in its text message menu, so I spent what seems like an hour trying to figure out how to do this. I take the subway often and really need to be able to crank out messages and send them when I'm outside.

OK here's how you do it:

1. compose a message
2. assign the person or people you want to send it to.
3. from the screen where it asks you if you want to send the message, hit the menu key button (the one in between the green-dot key and the return key on the bottom-right hand side.
4. at this menu, you will have the option to save to draft.

Thanks for looking up the "Quick Notes" feature, Yoda! This was exactly what I was looking for. You can use this feature to build text message templates or just to jot down notes. I didn't think to try it since when I opened the "Quick Notes" app, it had a bunch of preset text message templates.

Just an FYI, the "Drafts" function doesn't let you save drafts of text messages. It forces you to send the text message after you write it. Maybe it's intended for email use, but since I don't have an email server set up, it gives me an error message.

Cool, scratch one item from the list! One less annoying thing. 😁

Excellent! That is just what I wanted to hear.

I really appreciate you taking the time to let us know the pros and cons of the A630.

I thought this would be the case at first. But, quicknotes are merely pre-canned text messages (e.g. 'how are you?' 'where are you?') that you might use if you send common messages to people.

Yup, I have the same annoyances. It makes me appreciate my old t68i a lot more now. The other really bad thing about the alarm is that if you set the alarm and then lock the keypad you have to unlock it before you can turn it off.
