Does anyone know the email settings for text messaging on Cingular?
Their tech support doesn't seem to know anything about these phones and there is no info on their web sites.
Thanks

The settings depend on where your email service is.

Cingular does not have any services to support email from your phone. What you need to do is use your ISP's SMTP & POP server to send & receive email. Consider your phone as nothing more than a client; you still need a service to connect to.

Keep in mind too that many ISPs block access to their SMTP server from outside their own networks until you try and get mail first.

I actually had to setup IMAP on my phone to connect to my work email servers to send & receive email from the phone. I'm still doing some testing, but at the moment I can send email through my work email server and sync my phone with my work account. Now we'll see how well it works under a full test this weekend.

I know you can also access additional POP3 accounts on your phone. But you CAN send a text message as an email from your Cingular phone using them as your SMTP server. Your Cingular email address is 10phone#@mobile.mycingular.com. I called tech support they gave me some info (below) but I am still having problems.

ISP Settings: GPRS
Email provider: Custom
Protocol: POP3
User ID: cingular
Passwd: photo2msg
Sending Host: photo.mycingular.com
Sending Port: 25
Receiving host: photo.mycingular.com
Receiving port: 110
Return address: 10phone#@mobile.mycingular.com
Name: Your name
...all else default

and GPRS settings

Home page: http://device.home
Apn: wap.cingular (lower case)
IP address: 66.209.11.61
User name...

Interesting.

The tech guy I talked to said that Cingular did not and was never going to support a SMTP server. Nothing like getting different information from different people. 😛

The real question is how much memory does all this chew up before you hit a limit.

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

FINALLY, after reading website after website, NOTHING ELSE worked. I can now send pictures using my Cingular v400. I have MSN so I couldn't put custom POP Mail settings into the phone. Even if i did have pop access most providers like earthlink and others block there SMTP ports from being used by outside sources anyway. THESE SETTINGS DO WORK!!! Now i just hope they don't change/deactivate them!
