DONT BUY THE CINGULAR LOCKED VERSION MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE UNLOCK SILVER OR BLACK VERSION FROM NOKIA DIRECT

Is there some advantage to doing this? I'm trusting that the online very happy reviews of this Nokia phone are on the money, and lean towards upgrading to it, but wonder what you get in an "unlocked" phone that is better. I don't even know what it means for the phone to be unlocked: can you use one with Cingular? Thanks for educating me!

I'm not so sure that the Cingular version is locked anyway. All international phones from Cingular already come "unlocked", so this phone should be included. By the way, to be "locked" means the phone is locked to the carrier. For instance, you cannot pop in a Cingular sim card into a "locked" T-mobile phone. If you have an unlocked verison, however, you can put in any sim card you want.
