Stupid question: Is MMC the same as SD?

I always see these acronyms pop up together and my impression was that MMC is the same as SD. If that is the case, then why does Nokia list the 6230 as expandable with MMC cards and not SD? And also everyone in this discussion also refers to them as MMC? Can someone please shed some light on this subject for me? I want to use this phone with a high-capacity SD card that I got for my digital camera so I can load music onto it. TIA.

They are two different media cards. They are about the same size but slightly different. Some devices accept them both but most do not. Your SD card will not be compatible with the 6230 but you can get a high capacity MMC card also. It is a great phone and worth the extra money for the new card. Hope this helps.

That helps a lot. Thanks for clarifying it for me. Great, another format!
