Phone gets hot!
I know that this is a common problem but will this affect the phone in any way?

Sometimes the phone WILL get warm if you're using the phone a lot.
The reason for this is that the battery IS part of the back cover, so your hand is directly touching the battery. Motorolas and Nokias tend to encase their batteries so your hand is not directly touching the battery when you're talking on the phone.
If it's TOO hot that you can't hold onto the phone, I'd bring it into your local VZW corporate store.
