Lg: Accessory gouging?

Hey folks:
I just spoke with Lg and found out that if I want the extended battery, I have to spend an extra $30 (on top of the $58.50 they charge for the battery) to get the travel charger - since the 4500 with the extended battery will not fit into the charger that comes with the phone. I have had phones from other companies and this is the first time that I have heard of this!
Of course, we can go to FACTORY DIRECT CELLULAR (http://www.factorydirectcellular.com/home/lg e/lgvx4400.htm#chargers) and pay a LOT less, but I am concerned about the safety (for the phone) of after market accessories.
Any opinions?

If you have the vehicle charger I would think you could use that to charge the new battery. I can't believe they designed the home charger without allowing the extended battery to fit. Like you said. Price gouging. 😢

I just checked the charger that came with the phone and when the phone is in it you will notice that there is 1/8 to 1/4 inch space below the standard battery. I think this extra space is to accomodate the thicker extended battery. The LG person might have been mistaken. 😕

Albee, I hope you're right - but at Factory Direct Cellular, a place for very good prices on after markets accessories, they also state:
LG's original charging cradle cannot accommodate extended size batteries, order the car or home charger with this battery.

By the way, what do you know about the wisdom of using after market batteries or chargers? I have heard bad stories about them - and actually had a bad experience with one for my Audiovox 9500.

I've always taken the cheaper route with accessories and have not had any problems. I have always bought that stuff locally so I could eyeball it first. But I wouldn't buy a darn thing on Ebay.

I have the extended battery and it fits in the desktop charger that comes with the phone. You can also charge a battery without the phone attached (normal or extended).

Ditto here. I have no problem charging the extended battery with the desktop charger.
