I have finally returned from my road test. I'll try to stay with facts and omit opinions.

PROS (after road test)
can voice dial numbers etc with phone closed
and headset in use
digit dial is nice most of the time
contact dialing is on the right track
signal strength better than 4400B in same
areas
lightweight in pocket (even with ext battery)
ext. battery life good with high speaker use
headset louder than 4400B headset

With the headset connected, I press the bottom outside button. The phone has a setting Menu, 7, 4, 1 that allows commands to be given after pressing "Side Key Only" or "Flip Open". I am set to "Side Key Only". Let me know if you are successful at this.

What did you mean exactly about the other person's phone had some influence on the loudness of your phone? The person you were talking to, or did you have someone else riding with you and you felt that somehow their phone interfered with your phone's performance?
-----
The volume of the person was not loud for some reason. It seemed to me that it was dependent on where they were and what phone they were on. I was on the speakerphone with the one of my colleagues twice while on the road. During my first conversation, his phone was loud and clear. During the second call, he was not as loud for some reason. I think that I was at highway speed during both calls.

You also mentioned trouble in recognition of digits.

I noticed while around town the when receiving a call in "Driving Mode" if the headset is connected the number is still announced through the speaker instead of the headset. I thought that this was quirky at first but makes sense now. If you don't want to keep the headset in your ear you can still hear the number.
