Updated to Android 2.1...

Ok so I finally decided to run the update to the hacked version of Android 2.1. I have no serious complaints, but it definitely seems to lag quite a bit more than the official 2.0.1 release. On start up, I only have about 84MB of free ram as apposed to 110MB before. Just curious if anybody else has tried this and is experiencing anything similar. If so, any solutions?

I can't really speak to Eris, I understand that Sense is causing problems for HTC with the 2.1; but I don't know any details.

Motorola has announced on their facebook page that the 2.1 update for the Droid is due this week; that seems pretty official, although I suppose Verizon might have something to say about it, too.

It also appears that it is not the full 2.1 as on the Nexus. Specifically, it doesn't have the 3D app cube, or the animated wallpapers.

However, I have Pandahome, which allows a slideshow wallpaper, so it feels animated. interestingly, the way Pandahome does it, it also changes the wallpaper for the normal home screen.

Maps already got pinch zoom this week; it will be interesting to see if the music playe...

"Sense" is the default UI on the Eris, basically, a replacement desktop created by HTC. The Droid (since it's not HTC) doesn't have it.

PandaHome is another replacement desktop (or replacement home screen). There's several out there. aHome, OpenHome, etc.

Pandahome supports using a slideshow as your wallpaper, which means that I have a list of pictures, and it cycles through the list, putting up a new one every minute or so. Because it actually changes the system wallpaper setting, it isn't very fast (only updates about once/minute), but it also changes the wallpaper of the Default Home as well.

Mostly, it's personal preference. In my case, it's also because I'm cheap, and pandahome is free, where the other are not ;) Pandaho...

Motorola Revises Droid Update Timeline

Today, 12:00 PM by Eric M. Zeman

Earlier this week, Motorola's official Facebook page posted information on a planned update for the Droid. That posting indicated that the Droid woud be updated over the air with Android version 2.1 "this week." Motorola has now stepped back from that statement, indicating that it was premature. Motorola said to PhoneScoop in an email, "The Droid over-the-air software upgrade is expected to rollout soon. It will automatically be pushed to phones when ready and Verizon Wireless customers will only have to accept the free download for continued use and enjoyment of this feature packed device."
