Question about international use

Does anyone know whether Verizon will unlock the Blackberry Storm so that it can be used with local SIM cards while traveling overseas? The Verizon website says that you need to call if you want a "global calling plan or global feature." I'm not sure whether this means that there is no present intent to unlock the phone or whether it merely means that you have to be preapproved to call overseas utilizing the phone due to the increased billing such use would generate.

Verizon will NEVER unlock a phone, especially for overseas. What you're seeing basically means to call them to enable the global roaming feature, otherwise it won't work overseas. It will ONLY work with the SIM provided when you purchased the phone (or a replacement SIM from Verizon). However, I'm sure a hacker will be able to unlock the Storm soon enough. Once that's done, you should be able to use any SIM.

Getting unlock codes for BB's isn't hard, a 2 min. Google search and $20 (give or take) will unlock the GSM side of the Storm.

Thing is, when traveling and using an international sim just figure how many calls are you going to make, many times you're just as well paying the roam fee's, depending on usage.

Second thing, if you do use an international sim, how is this going to work with the blackberry features?

I went though this this past summer, I just used my unlocked N95 with my current AT&T plan, cost me like $20 or so in international roam fee's. I didn't plan on making a lot of calls, a few to tour guides, one from him to me if I wanted to get picked up, and a few to my brother in law and vice versa.

Okay, maybe not NEVER... but considering one phone out of how many have been unlocked? It's very seldom it happens and I doubt Verizon will be unlocking the Storm. Too much lost revenue.

Actually, Verizon also unlocked its Blackberry 8830 World Edition phone in addition to the Motorola Z6c, so it is possible that it could unlock the Blackberry Storm also. I guess time will tell.
