how can you call this a touch screen phone when you still have to click a PHYSICAL button for anything to work? the iphone is truly a touch screen phone....

and how long till this screen button breaks from having to be used so freaking much?

thoughts?

Yep. You are wrong and should stop talking. This thing has already been disassembled in another forum and the entire screen sits on a button. Just like a key on a keyboard. The screen is sensitive to touch, but is still a button that you press for a response.

If you future, do your homework before you try calling people out.

i agree, a touch screen is something that you would only touch. if you have to push it down then that's not a touch screen. that's like calling saying a car is an electric car but you still have to have gas in it.

This is a real touch screen phone, If you notice when you touch lightly on the an icon it highlights it, Then when you accually push down it goes into the icon you choose, Also it shows its a true touch when you are scrolling, you lightly run your finger up and down the phone to make it scroll, Without pushing the screen down

ok the only thing that stopped me from buying it is the fact that the screen button has to wear out since everything you do from emailing to texting has to be done by pressing the screen so many times....do you really think that will hold up? i do A LOT of texting!

I want to break one open and see what it looks like under the huge screen button, Should be the same as any button.BUT if the screen doesnt hold up atleast VZW allows to have insurance. Unlike At&t and their blackberrys or iphone. And seems like that would be covered under the 1 year manufactuers warranty so free replacement.(FRU)

AT&T will insure a Blackberry Bold and other Blackberry's. Get it strait, before you shout "unlike".

I also think this phone is well made and should be able to take clicking for several years.

The irony is the Apple is using the SAME basic technology in their new macbooks, so expect to see it on the iphone3.

But then again, it will be totally different because it is apple, right?

Apple makes a very nice phone and the storm should not compare to the iphone, it is in it's on class

I am talking about apple's Macbook multitouch mousepad. It also uses a "click" interface to register use.

And the iphone is not in it's own class. It is a smartphone, marketed to tech consumers (and the "Me too" joneses). It boasts a full html browser, a media player, and the ability to recieve "push" email.

It is in the same class as other smartphones. Yes, it has a lot of eye candy, but this does not make it it's own class of phone.

Now, the fact that it is one of the only camera phones that can't send or receive picture messages does separate it, but it doesn't make it special.

iPhone's push is a joke cannot be compared to bb push. iPhone pings the server every 15 30 or 1 hour to check for new email.Yes its pathetic no picture messeges, copy paste , but most of knew that when we bought it.

as far as the storm touchscreen I agree with the OP, I haven't had my chance to test it, but its innovation from RIM

I could afford an iphone, I have no desire to purchase one.

See, I love OSX, and own a macbook. I'm just no a fan of that phone, or really of ipods. they are decent devices, but they are not the end all be all, and they should be able to do some things (mms, equalizer for music player) BECAUSE they are apple products. Apple makes great stuff, I just think that the iphone still needs a lot of improvement. I feel that apple traded on their name and design factor and didn't spend enough time making a device with the same standards they hold their computers to.

(Not to mention att service around here sucks and I would need to drive an hour to get their 3g network, so having a smartphone around here is kinda a waste of potential. Veriz...

It is a touch screen, while you press the screen like a button, you still TOUCH the screen (without clicking the screen)to scroll through the menu and navigating online.

The intial poster has a valid point. This is not a "true" touch interface. It is merely and adaption of their previous roller ball technology. You finger on the glass has simply replaced rolling the ball. It still requires manual depressing of physical trigger to activate the selected area. The screen itself does not have the ability to accept true input. It merely allows for selection of items...just as the roller ball did before it. The only difference the the ball has been replaces with a piece tactile glass.

Then you should have said so... 😁

I can agree that it is not a true touch interface like the iPhone, but it is RIM's version of one. Trying to point out the difference is a difficult task and kind of nit picky in a way.
