Can I use WIFI even if I don’t have the internet package?

Verizon told me that the Wifi only works if I have the internet plan through them?

I was hoping to buy this one and use the wifi and NOT the Verizon internet plan (I wouldn’t use it enough to warrant the extra expense)

Thanks!

Your WiFi would work on any Omnia, regardless of if it has any type of service with Verizon or not. The real kicker is trying to get the Omnia from verizon without the data plan and expect the voice to work. Reason being is cause Verizon wont sell you the omnia without the dataplan. So unless you bought it full retail or bought one off ebay, your not gonna get an Omnia without data plan. And if you did buy it on ebay and then think your gonna just add voice, your in for a surprise. They wont add it unless you also add data. Just freakin splurge on the $30 and get the data. You are missing out on everything the Omnia has to offer if you dont. Unless your Madoff and stuck in your Park Ave apt 24/7.

When I look online to replace my phone it shows me the phones that are compatible w/my current plan (Nationwide Basic 900 minutes 59.99) and it shows the Omnia as one of those phones that I can use w/my plan ... I do not have data, why would it show me the phone would work?

I'm considering a smart phone also and would also not use the online enough to warrant an extra $30/month (I give Verizon enough $$ between internet, cable and home phone services as it is).

Any insight on this?
Thanks.

Oh, wait, nevermind, upon adding to my cart it tells me that I MUST select a data plan. ~pbbbbttt~ I don't think that's fair for VZW to do this - some folks just want access to some files, contacts, etc., (like me!).

The i910 will connect to the internet via wifi if an access point is available even with the phone radio switched off. I'm connected to my LAN with phone and bluetooth off as I type this.

Having said that, my opinion is that owning a phone that's on the bleeding edge of technology and trying to do it on the cheap is an oxymoron, and pointless.

It's true that VZW won't sell a smartphone now unless a data plan is included. Might not be how you'd like to do it, but that's industry standard now. You want the phone? You pay for a data plan.
