Apple iPhone 3G
Question from South Jersey
My current VZW contract is up in January. I'm considering the new iPhone 3G, but I do remember a time about 8-10 years ago when I went with AT&T for my cellular coverage. It was awful.
This was back in the days of roaming, and the salesman lied to me that there would be no roaming within a 25-mile radius around my home address. He also told me that AT&T had the entire region saturated with coverage.
Well, I couldn't go one mile in any direction from my house and get any signal (my phone or the wife's). Calls constantly dropped if you were moving.
So, I called to cancel within the 30 day period, and got socked with all these roaming charges. The CS rep told me that most of my area was roaming, because AT&T had no towers in South Jers...

i work in the wall/neptune area and i must say, i have better coverage then i did with verizon. there is a wawa on rt 34 which is a dead zone for verizon but the iphone works great. i also spent 2 nights a week in brick and again i have no issues at all. i know every cell company is different and every user is different, but this is what i experienced and hope it helps your decision.

I am a current VZW customer and am SERIOUSLY considering getting the iphone 3g when my contract runs out in December. Tedkord, I am in your situation. I used to be a cingular customer where I live in Somerset County. The coverage (1998-1999) was AWFUL! I then went to NJ Bell (now Verizon) and now have better coverage.
Ok dmtammaro, I have been by that WAWA many times using VZW and there is no longer a dead zone there. My parents have a summer home in Brick on the Metedeconk River. I would be using the phone a lot there as my father and I go fishing in the river and I use it on the dock.
Long story short (too late for that LOL) Should I switch to ATT or get the LG Dare and stick with VZW?

I currently live in somerset county and have pretty good reception. only time i dont is when im in my basement. i have a wireless network at home so the extras on the phone work great. the phone calls tho could be iffey but so far the have been good. let me know if there is anything i can do for ya. where abouts in somerset county??

Thanks for the response! I am in Franklin Park right off Route 27. I am a VZW customer thinking about getting the Dare or I can wait until Dec and switch to ATT and get this iphone 3G. What would you suggest? Thanks!
