Will data revert back to EDGE if my area (zip code 54880) is not in a 3G area?

Thanks?

Yes.. AT&T uses three 3G frequencies and four EDGE (2G) frequencies. The system is designed to defalt to the best signal it can get. If you are in a 3G area and travel to another area that is not covered by 3G it will switch to EDGE automatically without you even noticing. You will switch frequencies frequently without knowing. EDGE will not be as fast for internet browsing but it will allow you to make a call without a hitch.

Some frequencies communicate better in denser areas than others and some frequencies work better in open areas.

hmmmmmmmmm

Will the phone tell you what network you are on? I surely would hate paying the extra for 3G when most time the phone is not using it!

I know that with most of the phones that AT&T sells there is an indicator near the signal strength indicator that will either have an E for Edge network or a 3 or 3g for when you are in their 3g coverage area. The 3g iPhone should have the same (hopefully).
