Using Blackberry to Access My Desktop

I purchased the Blackberry Bold so that I could access my desktop. The Curve was just fine for retrieving & sending email, but I wanted the Bold to act as a laptop when I am away from my office. I thought I could go to the web and type http://remote.companyname.com and I would be in my computer. Now I find out that I can't do that. Is there 3rd party software to do this? Is the rep wrong? Let me know.

Your rep was wrong. You will need a VNC client for Blackberry like the one:

On WM Pro devices, they have terminal services which does this out of the box, which was probably what the rep was thinking.

Just install VNC on your PC and the above software on your Blackberry and you'll be good to go.
