Buying the service plan for emailing etc.

Is it necessary to buy the data plan for the phone in order to activate and use it? Can you just use it as a regular phone? Will Verizon reps activate it for you and allow you to use it without the data plan purchase? Does anyone know? Please help me out, many responses will be very much appreciated.

I am sure it is not necessary as other carriers (T-Mobile) allows for usage without a data plan but Verizon does not allow it. The least expensive data plan is $30.00.
The plan is nice if you want personal email and usage of the internet. It has good pda features if you need them. If you need to get your corporate email then it is around $50.00 a month.

Actually, yes. I found out 'cuz I work for them now. Verizon DOES allow it without the data plan. Blackberrys do require it however, but a phone like the i760 doesn't. Nice try though. But try replying when you DO know the answer and not anything inbetween. Thanks anyway.

Can't wait for your help on NPS. With the way you treated zippaul after he or she tried to help you, maybe you should work for sprint.
