I recently changed jobs and my new company uses T-Mobile. The coverage in my condo is horrible, I have to be on my balcony to get a signal. In my home, I have a regular Comcast wireless setup, do I need to purhcase a different wireless router to use the HotSpot feature w/ the BB Curve? Also, will my coverage get better? At this point I am considering getting a home phone (which I have not done is almost 10 years). I appreciate any and all info!
The short answer is no, you do not need to get a new router. I have the Curve and I also have Comcast. I have a different 3rd party router whose name I cannot think of right now, but I do use the Curve over that router and it works just fine.
The longer, T-Mobile corporate issued response would be that yes, they would recommend you purchase a router through them (it'll only run you $50 with a $50 mail in rebate resulting in a net cost of free). They claim that the router is programmed to search for your phone first, data devices second. This, they claim, will result in better battery life on your wireless device.
I don't know if this is true, but I can tell you that the battery life on my Curve is not too good to start.
I replied to a question similar to yours. Tmobile sent a list of steps to resolve this issue and it has fixed the issue for many people. Look through the other postings. It has the full email they sent plus a link to go directly to the bb website with the info
