Umm, When then they say they have a 3g network, it means they have a 3g network. Why are you asking when they will have it?

My Voyager connects using EVDO. 1st rep didn't know anything about it, 2nd said that they hope to have it up in a year, funny how they can advertise "Take advantage of our 3G network with the voyager" when it's not even up and running yet. must be to try and keep up with the iphone3g.

What is Generation 3?
Further, while EVDO and HSUPA are commonly referred to as “3G” mobile networks, some classes of EDGE can also fit that description, according to Wikipedia. It states:

"EDGE can carry data speeds up to 236.8 kbit/s for 4 timeslots (theoretical maximum is 473.6 kbit/s for 8 timeslots) in packet mode and will therefore meet the International Telecommunications Union's requirement for a 3G network, and has been accepted by the ITU as part of the IMT-2000 family of 3G standards. It also enhances the circuit data mode called HSCSD, increasing the data rate of this service."

Verizon has been refering to evdo as 3g since evdo came out and verizon built the network. Because it is 3g. By definition. It's iphone that's playing catchup. Anyway, two messages ago, you were ocmplaining that verizon didn't have a 3g network. Now your a freakin expert. wtf, poser dude.

look if you don't have any useful info then stop responding. I'm no expert I know how to cut and paste Jack A. read the article 3G is pretty broad spectrum. Did Know that EVDO was in that category, I don't have all the time in the world to screw off readiing about the **** when I am buying a new phone I get on. Thanks for clearing that up you are the greatest.

You're the one complaining in your first message they don't have a 3g network. You stand corrected. Buy an iphone and deal with ATT, you'll be happier and so will we.

evdo maxes at 2.4 but you probably average around700-800kb, no matter how you look at it, it blows the doors of edge(which is a joke in a device such as the iphone) the 3g iphone will finally catch up to blackberries and others who have been utilizing 3g for well over a year prior to the first iphone's launch. This was a huge/pathetic mistake that apple did not use this technology first time around...hell my chocolate i had almost 2 years had 3g.

So to answer your question verizon is not catching up with the iphone... Apple is releasing a new one because they dropped the ball on the first one and pissed a lot of people off, why do you think they are offering the new one at $300 less then the first one.

And to top it all off it will n...

In my area VZ has never referred to their network as being 3G till now. Thanks to a very informative individual I now know that VZ had 3G all a long, hell they even built it. Someone should tell their associates that.

as far as the price drop, it's not to hard to figure, when the first one came out I said that looks cool as hell but there's now way that I was paying 500 bucks for one, now they use a smoke screen to add the extra to the data package. that is pretty smart really you have to give it to them. the average Joe won't do the math or it won't matter it's small amount spread over time.

no stereo blue tooth, is pretty lame but like some one else said Iphone 3 will have and they will bring in that many more people.

no matter h...
