Bitpim help

I'm new to the Bitpim program...I just downloaded the latest version. I set the phone to VX-10000, then plugged in the phone via the usb; the computer itself recognizes it's there (annoying pop-ups!!!), yet bitpim can't find the phone. Do I set the phone to the "mass storage device" setting? I've tried every possible combination of on, off, etc., but it never seems to find the phone. Thanks for any help

BitPim doesn't have the phone loaded into their database just yet as far as I know. It detects that the phone is connected to my computer but that's about it, I can't sync it to BitPim itself. They'll get it up soon I'm sure.

Ahh, yes. The 11-26 version does have a setting for the voyager. Going to try it out now.

Well, most of it works anyway. Seems to be a problem with music which it is treating like ringtones.

Note that it's listed as a "test release" for development and checkout purposes. These are "...available to users and developers who are willing to try out the latest bug fixes, features and new phone support." So, you should consider yourself a beta tester until the final release is posted.

I know this isn't an answer but even though this is a great new phone it's sad that BitPim is even needed...

The phone should be able to interface to a PC with software provided by LG/Verizon, out of the box.

This is an industry-wide issue, not really a voyager-specific issue. There are a lot of different phones and carriers on bitpim dropdowns...

At least Verizon isn't releasing quasi-mandatory service patches designed to brick phones that attempt to use it.

Verizon charges extra for these things because apparently people are willing to pay. Cable is the same way -- basic, premium and ppv. Wire carriers the same -- extra for voice messaging, call waiting, distinctive ring.

I don't see Verizon as any worse than any of the others. Shop around, different carriers offer different bundles.

All valid points.

My position however is that Nokia back in 2002, on ATT, offered NOKIA written, supported software product that synced my contacts, calender (limited mind you to 32 or so characters).

Also, for a $300-350 phone, more with memory added, it should allow the user to perform some of these functions without extra fees.

Vendors are offering more an more as they move to alternative revenue sources. Syncing outlook on a limited phone like this (not a PDA/Smartphone), shouldn't be locked down. Same with sounds...

Well, OK but look... Why would either Verizon or LG spend money developing what would probably be a crappy application they would give away for free knowing that there are third party companies out there with decent apps that users are already using. Especially when they already have an app people are willing to pay for?

Heck, with my old audiovox and lg, I had to buy the usb cable and drivers and that was another $50. With the voyager, they're included. And, as far as getting music back and forth, they provided the application. You can sms yourself to make ringtones and use bluetooth to move contacts back and forth.

Set up your phone with SMS on google calendars (works both ways), download free mobile email (premium plan), bluetooth...

I know the test versions are full of bugs. My problem isn't that data works but music doesn't. It's that the program can't find the phone at all. Everyone else, even those who can't get music, etc to work, seem to be able to at least have bitpim recognize that the phone's there. mine doesn't.

do I need to be connected to the usb mass storage device setting?

I'm not sure, I tried it and it autodetected mine. Are you sure you installed the verizon CD that contains the drivers? If the USB connection is working and you ahve the verizon driversinstalled, then worst case, you should be able to use the drop down to select the voyager.
