So i'm pretty new to the Windows Mobile 6 mobile platform and I am just wondering if anyone would have any advice as to the best GPS application for me to use on this device.

Google Maps is very popular. In fact I have that on my 8125, and while it (the 8125) lacks the GPS features of the new Tilt, the software does work very well, and adding an external Bluetooth GPS module works quite well too. As far as which package is "the best", well that's a whole different question. They all have their strengths and weaknesses to some degree. The aforementioned Google Maps was extremely simple to download, install and utilize. That may be a very good place to start.

Google Maps works great - I have it installed - but it's a bit of a stretch to call it GPS software. It's really just a map that tracks your location via GPS. The main advantage of Google Maps is that it is free.

TomTom Navigator and Telenav are both good GPS apps - spoken turn-by-turn directions, etc - that work great on the Tilt. TomTom seems to be more popular, probably because Telenav costs $10/month. TomTom offers a free taster pack (1 major city of your choice) or a full US/Canada version for $150.

Do you need a bluetooth satellite receiver with this phone? If you do, then why is it called a GPS phone? I currently have Garmin mobile for my Motorola Q and i would be interested in not having to carry around the additional device. I wonder if the Garmin would work on this phone?

GPS unit built in. All you need is the service, whether subscription as in Navetel, or one time fee such as Tom Tom to name a few.

Don't use Google Maps and don't use any thing else you have to pay for a subscription.

Just go to live.com, and download windows live to your phone, if they WM6 doesn't already have it. You can use it for POIs and also Navigation. I usued on my Cingy 8525 with a BT GPS Receiver, though the receiver didn't always cooperate, but when it did you were able to get on screen directions and anything else telenav or tom tom could give you...

Google Maps is free, there's no subscription necessary.

Use TeleNav, it offers voice prompted turn-by-turn up to the minute maps with everything that a 500 dollar GPS would offer including favorites, business locator, cheapest gas finder, etc. It's worth the price.
