Another weird thing...when you look at the non-contract full price of the Q9m, it is $30 less than the black Q. Wouldn't you think the older model should cost less? Maybe the older one is just better.

No. Thats because when Verizon wireless gets new equipment or just new orders they renegotiate the price. That price will not change unless they have current stock and get new stock and change the price of existing stock to reflect the new price they got for the new stock, wether its for good or for bad.
