My daughter had the problem with the 8830 where whenever she was in a space with even a little background noise, we couldn't hear her.
We could hear the background noise clearer than her.
She went thru 4 replacement 8830 phones in So. Cal. over 30 days.
Finally the Verizon store techs and the Verizon phone support techs advised her that there was nothing they could do.
They took back the equipment reverted the account to the original status and credited the account.
She is back to her LG and its amazing to hear the difference in voice audio.
Let us know when they fix the problem and we will be back, I want one when they get the kinks worked out.
We have been Verizon customers since 1987.
Yea, you could say we are loyal.

Our 3-8830 came from So Cal and yours from NYC.
It good to know that there isn't just one bad regional batch.
I emailed RIM and they said that their customer in this case are the Verizon Wireless Corp. and Verizon Corp are the ones to report the issue and request for correction to RIM.
In the mean time, what are alternatives for a world phone with affordable voice, text messaging, INTERNET access and email?
We hope that Verizon and RIM will be able to provide quality some day.
For the time being, we bought a "Mobal" phone for international voice calls.
