Let's talk SDK

How does this work? Developers are going to build apps and submit them to apple to approve and release to the public via apple.com? Or are these apps going to be built and we can just blindly download them from various places on the web?

Also, what kinds of apps is everyone expecting? Anything from Slingbox / Slingmedia in the works?

Just trying to get a better understanding of what's to come!

I'm just waiting for SDK to come out... Anyone know when? It was mentioned once by apple and never again. I want my phone to actually be useful without having to jailbreak it again. They have some awesome apps with jailbreak, cant imagine something legit.

Here's the deal: SDK release at the end of February. Expect to see apps rolling out by June/July.

Now, as for the nature of the apps, and how they'll be unleashed is difficult to think about. I think it'll just be like it is now. There are tons of apps online that apple.com promotes. I thnk the real "change" will be apps will move from being online to software.

So, I would expect all the same apps apple promotes.

I heavily think apple will have a strong hand in this: IE: No nintendo apps unless Nintendo allows it.

It'll be interesting to get the details when they roll out.

Applications will be available right away after the announcement. The applications will be available on itunes for a fee and then you will be able to put apps on your phone via itunes. The apps already available are just web pages tailored for the iPhone. They are not really full third party apps but widgets. You will see a whole new era of the iphone at the end of February.

Apple never makes announcements without having something ready to go. Also you know my theory about applications being purchase thru itunes is correct. I bet you that a few games and apps will be available at the end of this month. Furthermore Apple sent the SDK out to certain companies ahead of time. Most of this stuff is in the works way before the announcement. Here is more proof:

Thank you! You are right as well! I got the 16GB iphone and all i know is that this phone will get better and better. This phone is just great. Furthermore don't believe the hype on the whole 3G stuff. 3G is still not that faster than Edge. The reason is that when you type in a page like apple.com or the new york times, it takes a while either on 3G or Edge to download pages with lots of info. This hold true for desktops and laptops. In my opinion apple should give the iphone 4G technology which is already being implemented as we speak. Also since AT&T just took wi-fi services for 7,000 Starbucks locations the possibilities for the iphone just got better. The only thing is that don't believe the hype about what will come next because...

More iPhone software claims

For the sake of completeness, AppleInsider notes a dubious rumor report from MacBidouille on expectations for the next version of Apple's iPhone software.

According to a tip passed onto the site, Apple recently commissioned a survey alongside its exclusive French iPhone wireless provider indicating that the next version of the handset's software would be labeled iPhone software 2.0 rather than 1.1.4 and include support for Adobe Flash, copy and paste, and iChat over WiFi, among other things.

MacBidouille holds a mixed track record on its forward looking Apple reports as of late, with its mos...
