Help w/ pic messaging?
I'm going to getting the iPhone today or tomorrow, and I (along with a friend who already has the phone), needed help with pic messaging.
Can someone please tell me how exactly do you send pic messages, ASIDE from e-mailing them? In other words, and like on most phones, can someone from another carrier send a pic message to your mobile phone number, as opposed to e-mailing it to you?
Additionally, can you send a pic from your iPhone to another carrier's phone number? If so, how? Someone with an iPhone tried sending me a pic to my verizon cell number, and all I got were lines, but no pic or anything.
Help!!!

Unfortuneatly there is no MMS (thats picture text messaging ) avalible for the iphone ...Yet!
I have heard talk that this will become an upgrade in the near future, but as of now the only way is to send through e-mail.
If someone with MMS sends you a picture then you will recieve a text to go to www.viewmymessage.com and passwords. You can then use the web browser to access the site and view your pic.
It's kind of a pain, but thats how its done.

Wow... that really sux!
I hope you're right about the possible uprade in the near future for this.
Thank you for the reply!
I have one more question... I've heard talks about a firmware upgrade enabling instant messaging. Is this true? Otherwise, is there a work around to get IM diectly on the iPhone, aside from IM forwarding?
Thanks again! 🙂

the more i hear whining about picture messaging the more I hate it. e-mail is so much better for sending pics.

There are so many third party programs that DO allow sending MMS, still can't receive them yet. Use modmyphone.com to get programs and apps. I searched "jail breaking" an iPhone in within an hour had a totally new and MUCH cooler phone. I have changed all the icons to take on a new england sports theme...wicked cool stuff to be found for the iPhone.

You can email photos to Verizon wireless users this way.
Use their number 4085551212 (bogus number)
4085551234@vzwpix.com

Yes, thats the best way to "send" pics to another carrier. For carriers such as t-mobile, other att phones, and sprint, you would have to find out there wireless "address." I send pics to my buddy all the time (on Verizon) and he sends them back to me just by sending them to my phone email. Works well for now, can't wait for the mms upgrade/iphone upgrade.
