Convince me...

convince me

Ive been a loyal verizon customer for years. But whats annoying is that their phones are horrible, otherwise the cell phone business would be a monopoly. Anyways, Im interested in the iphone for obvious reasons.

My biggest concern, is network/signal. Ive had cingular in the past and it was horrible. As the years have passed, I cant imagine it is still as horrible because some people seem to be happy with it.

So I have some random questions Id like if some of you could answer:

1) Are they going to release version 2 in 4 months that blows away the current model. Apple is infamous for doing this. Or will they fix a lot of the phones problems with firmware upgrades?

2) Microsoft office package. Ive heard they we...

Good questions, I will answer with what I know so far.

1)I personally don't think they will release iphone 2 in 4 months, I predict 1 year or later then the initial launch of the iphone. But who knows.

2)No idea

3)The site stays on safari but when you leave the call I think you just have to re-open safari, no biggie.

4)No, there is a proximity sensor on the phone that blacks it out when it is within inches of your face, then it immediately comes back to life when you move it away. neato.

5)the phones web browser is phenominal, I love it, I think it does everything you need and more. Trust me on this.

6)I don't think so

7)Warranty with Apple, no insurance does suck, I hate it.

Thanks for the feedback, some good stuff to consider.

I agree, I predict a new phone probably in the next 6-8 months. But if they do, I hope they plan to make some firmware upgrades to the current version (just read about the SDK bit)

I was also glad to hear about the warranty through apple. If there is a warranty through apple, why are people still complaining? From my point of view, if theres something wrong with the phone then you can replace it through them ... or is it very strict? whats the downside to the warranty?

I really dont understand not being able to set a song or sound file as a ringer. We are talking about a [Phone + ipod music player] .. put the two together and the first thing you think of is SONGS as RINGERS....

The warranty doesn't cover lost/stolen/broken phones.

Also, I'm sorry, you can set songs as ringers but you have to buy the song for $.99 then you can trim it into a ringtone for $.99 via itunes. I don't care to pay for it.

You have to pay upfront, kinda sucks but that would protect you from damage or loss. You can buy a extended warrenty from apple for after the first year. There 3rd party software that will let you cut mp3s and use them for ringtones for free-just google it. Good luck, I think I'm gonna get the sony ericsson 850i when its released for AT&T and wait for the next iphone release. I think it will be quite a while, but I'm patient. Then again I may go buy the iphone tomorrow.

Sure you could buy insurance online and pay upfront, that sounds legit. I for one would not. This guy wants real insurance through the wireless carrier.

Also, you can't just cut up an Mp3 and put it on the iphone. The phone is on lockdown, you have to pay for it right now unless you get an unlock program online. I had ibrickr for window before the latest iphone update came out. Now I have what Apple give. Deal.

I also made an appointment at an Apple store tomorrow to fix mine. It will not sync photos or music with the itunes right now. Not fun.

That is the worst deal I ever heard of.
$199 deductible plus 12 ($7.99) or 24 months (6.99) of payments. So for a 12 month insurance you pay a net cost of as much as $294.88 to replace the phone and for 24 months you pay as much as 366.76 to replace the phone. You pay the whole premium upfront.

A complete and total rip off. The mob would probably cut you a better deal than that. Total extortion.

1. No one knows, but yes they have already released 2 firmware upgrades.

2. Only way I could see this happening is through a 3rd party. Maybe after the software development kit is released in January.

3. pretty much any feature on the device will return to it's previous state, including web pages (which you can have multiple in the background simultaneously).

4. No, there is a proximity sensor and the phone pretty much goes dark when you put it near your face. In addition, only skin (ok fingernails too) will work on the screen. Couldn't use a stylus if you wanted to.

5. You really need to visit an AT&T store and play with the device. Safari is beautiful. But, I would assume there's a better chance of Wendy's selling Big Macs than...

Has anyone actually asked their own insurance company whether they will cover a cell phone? Everyone always talks about it but i am the only one who has asked. My insurance company does not do it and they thought I was a little crazy for asking. So, before you assume that they will, you better check.
