heres a list of phones you could spend around 500-600 dollars for full retail (after extra software and updates) to allow you to watch movies and still not have a touch screen or enough internal memory to have a whole movie!!
not to mention the battery life or the screen quality the iphone provides!!!
Nokia
n80ie $499.99
n75 $399.99
e61 $456.99 (no camera at all!!)
CarryDVD For Symbian $29.99

moto
Krzr $399.99 on the gsm version you can read video off the sd card i dont know about cdma

att
8525 $599.99 +$24.95 for dvd to pocket pc's

sony ericson
w950 $673.95 and you get a touch screen but no movie capabilities

so all these verizon and sprint guys dont realize you get what you pay for!!

and the iphone will be updated...

I don't know what your trying to compare to but the phones listed are retail, unlocked, with no 2yr Contract. So lets look at this logically.

AT&T:
8525 with 2yr contract I purchased for 99.99 (after 50.00 rebate) 24.95 for the dvd conversion, now we need storage. 8525 can support microSDHC cards the limit now is 4gb for 60.00 (8gb coming soon) So total price for 8525 = 184.94 + tx

AT&T
iPhone 2yr contract = 499.99 + tx

Total difference not including tax = 315.05

But wait there is more. I can send mms, have voice dial, speed dial, have touch screen, have plenty of bluetooth profiles including A2DP, infared, wi-fi, can stream music, can view & edit office documents, have 3G, can record video, have plenty of 3rd party apps to ch...

well i just got this off the website the 8525 is $449.99 with a 2 year contract. you get $50 off for buying online then there is a $100.00 mail in rebate so your total comes to $299.99 without tax.
apple builds a great product and the iphone series will get better as time goes on. it wont be long till the price drops we all remember when the razr came out for the first time and how much it cost.

I didn't say the phone was 99.99 after rebate from Cingular. The difference is the 8525 can be bought at a Cingular authorized agent. So amazon has them for 99.99 now with no rebate.

Yes I remember the razr & it to was crap, nothing no more than a v551 with a fancy casing. I have no problem paying money for a good phone, but if they are going to call it Revolutionary it better be able to do everything my current phone can do plus more.

The biggest problem with the 8525 is that it's not an iPhone.

So, what you're saying is, if you want a PDA phone, you should buy a PDA phone? What a novel idea! And are those people that want an iPhone allowed to buy an iPhone, or is there some restriction on that, and they MUST purchase a PDA phone. In that case, shouldn't they get the best PDA phone available? Why would they get an 8525?

All I'm saying is that the iPhone doesn't have the functionality of an 8525 (which this person used as an example).

I'm not knocking the iPhone, but it is just that. A phone. Not a PDA.

Can your iphone produce crisp clear sound...no

Is it really that revolutionary? ID say no I mean all of these things are features that have been perfected and usable even on the more basic phones for what 2-3 years now?

now if you lose your 8525 it'll cost you 600 bux not to mention by you putting a 4gb sd card in yours it was obviously not purchased thru ATT thus voiding your warranty 😛 so even if something happens to your phone your SOL anyways. so just pray your phone lasts 2 years with no glitches and keep remembering to clear the cache under memory so it doesnt lock up.

Well the same can be said for iPhone, hope you don't loose it. How is not buying a 4gb card from AT&T voiding my warranty? If your talking about my 8525 yes I did buy it from my local AT&T store.
As far as a phone lasting 2 yrs that goes for any phone. & as for the warranty if I need a replace Cingular sends it for free. If you need a replacement you have to rent a phone from apple while yours is repaired or replaced for a fee.

Your statement in your first post was way off. 600 is average for a phone. I can buy many phones for way under 600 with touch screen & many other features. You were comparing contract price against non contract price which is not accurate. The iPhone would cost more without a contract.

have u you even played or looked at this phone...you can't compare it to Windows Mobile phones...so in the past 2 years I have spent $199 + $299 (XV6700/Treo700WX) for two WM 5.0 phones, both complete pos...so the morale of the story is ...there really isn't a perfect phone out there ,the iPhone will meet needs of most people...encouraging folks to buy a WM 5.0 phone that lags and requires constant rebooting is very dishonest...for $600 an 8gb iPod + phone combo is a respectable price...and I bet people will enjoy that experience a lot more than the hair pulling experience that WM users have with their bricks....

Theres a difference between a problem with the device/hardware and not knowing how to use it. Windows mobile is a multi tasking OS and if you don't close your apps correctly you will have a problem

N75 = $199.99 after a $50 MIR w/2yr

KRZR = $150.00 after $50 MIR w/2yr

8525 = $350.00 after $50 MIR w/2yr

We don't have the iPhones (I'm an agent), but I know they are $499 and $599 w/2yr

How are these the same? If you're talking about buying one outright, you can't buy an iPhone outright so it's a moot point.

Like I said in my last post your point is moot. $600 is NOT average for a decent phone. Even if it was, you're comparing the prices without a contract, when you can't buy the freakin iPhone without a contract!!!

Not sure how else to say this......
