Overcharge by VZW on price of phone

So, I got my VX-8700 last night only to notice on my invoice VZW overcharged me for the phone. The bill showed the retail price of $349.99, then the 2 year price of $229.99 and then a $50.00 online discount. But the subtotal showed $199.99 instead of $179.99. And then they taxed me on the $199.99 to get me to $213.99. Did this happen to anyone else?

I called VZW and they could not explain it. However, they credited my account $25.00 as it would take them a long while to issue a credit onto my credit card.

Strange huh?

What state are you in? $213 would be about right if you pay tax on the retail price like some states do. For example here in California. retail $350, tax estimate at 8.5% for be $30.

180+30 is $210.

I am in NJ. The tax is 7% and it was shown as $14.00, which was based on the $199.99 price after the botched discount from $229.99. VZW said it was an error on their part. I just wanted to bring it to the attention of others so they can check and make sure they were billed correctly.

I do not believe NJ taxes on the original retail, but whatver amount you were charged. So tax is calculated after the discount.

On-line now shows $229 minus $50 on-line rebate minus $100 every two year credit, leaves $79 plus tax. I am about to order one.
