Tri Band vs. Quad Band

what is the real reception difference of the razar v3xx being a tri band vs. the lg cu500 being a quad band phone?

None within the states. A quad-band phone is only useful in foreign countries that support the 900mhz and 1800 mhz frequencies.

As long as your phone has 850mhz and 1900mhz bands (and it does) within the States, you'll be receiving optimal reception.
