I was told by a COR store rep that the N75 isn't a Smartphone. Is this true?

I don't think they consider it a smartphone. If you shop on their site under pda / smartphone, it's not listed.

Also they have a premium data plan called smartphone connect and I'm guess the N75 is not inlcuded in that.

The N-series phones are called mobile computers. A smartphone is one that can do email, surf Internet, take video, and run third party apps. On Howard Forums this phone is listed under PDA/smartphone. Don't know why the lady told you that-maybe she was clueless...

Tnis is the EXACT reason I DON"T buy branded freakin phones from the carrier. If one can afford it..its insane to purchase a phone from Cingular..At&T, T-mobile..whatever. It's like the old days of buying phones from Ma Bell..do yourself a favor and go out on the open market and buy an unlocked unbranded device and enjoy (with an unlimited data plan)

I guess my BestBuy bought Cingular N75 is a "fake phone"? Look if I didn't have some BB gift certificates plus a $10.00 credit for a previous review after purchase, I might have gone unlocked. But I'm happy with my phone as is.

By the Cingular/AT&T definitions, a smartphone is a non QWERTY device with and operating system and enterprise email capabilities, thus the only smartphone (by that definition) currently available is the HTC 3125. The N75 isn't a smartphone in the sense that it can't do enterprise email, so it's just on a MediaNet plan. Thus, what the rep told you was correct.

However, as most folk here would understand it, a smartphone is a phone device with an operating system (beyond the basic Java interface) that can install & run 3rd party programs, developed from a standar software platform. In that sense the N75 is a smartphone.
