gsm or cdma

when i buy this phone, do i have to pick between a gsm or cdma plan? or can i have both?

this phone isnt made in a cdma version. Samsung made it for cingular which is a gsm network. You cant just pick which one you want (one company uses sim cards, the other doesnt). heres a list of what each phone company is, and if you buy the phone unlocked you can only take it to gsm companies."

Actually, this is a WCDMA phone which is the upgrade path for GSM. You can't use it on a regular CDMA network if that's what you're thinking.

Nextel -GSM???? 😳
Actually, Nextel is iDen. They use SIM cards, but they are not GSM.
