LG VX9900 enV (Orange) supports 4GB MicroSD - Not!

Hi All,

My experience trying to get a 4GB Micro SD card to work in my LG VX9900 enV (Orange):

I bought the enV and SanDisk 4GB card yesterday for my son who turns 15 tomorrow.

I inserted the card into the enV, and the phone recognized it and could write to it without a problem.

When I got home the trouble started!

1) I couldn't get the card out. Pushing it in, did not cause it to Pop out as on my VX8300. I ended up resorting to tweezers to get it out.

More on that below.

2) I was unable to READ the 4GB Micro SD card on my desktop PC (XP, San Disk ImageMate 8in1 reader), nor my laptop (XP, integrated SD reader).

Both PC's COULD read the 2GB card I use for the VX8300!

I spoke to SanDisk support today. It turns out ...

Wow thanks for the explanation but that really does suck. Sorr to hear that. Everyones been telling me that the 4GB card is hard to get out. Let me ask you though, Suppose you did resort to using tweezers, and you did buy that high capacity Card Reader would the 4 GB card theoretically work? I mean you did say that the enV recognized the card which is a good thing. I mean Lately ever since I've learnt how to put videos onto my phone, i've been putting everyting onto my 2 GB Memory Card. I'm still amazed at how much informtion my card can actually hold! I mean sure I can always take some videos off of it, but it can hold A LOT! Thanks for your input and help though. And definitely always save your receipts when you buy stuff like this.

I have a 4gb in my new chocolate (8550) that works fine.
My computer does recognize it though but I use the M.E.K

Well, Even though you have the chocolate, it's still the same type of phone cause they both take MicroSD. Your computer can recognzie the card fine? What's the M.E.K? And how's that different than the Mobile Mate Card Reader?

The MEK is the "music essentials kit" and is comprised of a data cable, wired headphones, sync software and drivers.
Essentially the poster is saying "I sync my music using the data cable and WMP" and this is different than just using a card-reader. 😎

Ahh thank you ver much Ashaneen for the explananaton! Much appreciated. Music Essentials Kit. I pretty much know what it does, but i've never actually used it before due to my just using my memory card. You know what I mean? Do you use the Card Reader or the Essentials Kit for yourself?

Yea I had problems with a card reader as well, however my one built into my computer works fine when the card is in the SD adaptor.

I just got an orange Env from a friend 2 days ago and was able to take the 4gb out of the 8550 and put it in the ENV w/ no problems.

Sweet good deal. I hear that hopefully it shouldn't be too big of a problem with the regular Silver enV either. lol. Oh what can I say, the enV is an amazing phone wouldn't you agree? hahah

To answer your question, the 4GB MicroSD card worked fine in the phone as far as read, write, being able to see the full 4GB etc.

By "Not!" I meant that you couldn't eject it in a reasonable way.

With the tweezers, I tried to be gentle to not physically damage the card, and it seemed to continue to work fine upon successive insertions. However, I suspect the card life would be shortened by this kind of handling, so I decided to not keep it.

Unlike another respondent, I was not able to get it out with fingernails alone. Interestingly, the 2GB card I bought DID require fingernail work to get it out, but it would come out that way. Once it was inserted/removed a few times it seemed to loosen up and it comes out quite reasonably now.

Yeah that's verry true and reasonable. Right now w/ my 2 gig card, it's obviously easy to remove the card in the phone. Of course once I cut my nails it does become a bit harder but i always manage to push in far enough in order to hear the little clip noise then the front display lights up to let me know the card is successfully out of the phone.

I also have the problem w/the 4GB card getting stuck. But I think it's the way you pop it out. I personally use my nail edge to adjust it so that I push the card into the phone as far as possible and hold it while moving my nail in the downwards direction as far as possible so that essentially the memory card "flicks" out after my nail is no longer pushing it in. The force from the spring allows the card to pop out of the phone.

However, I have had a hard time trying to get the card out by normally pushing using my finger; even using tweezers doesn't always really help either.

Only using my nail to "flick" the card out has worked.

But the 4GB card does work great! (also this is on the silver enV - not sure if there's a differ...

Nope there's no difference b/w the orange enV and the silver enV with Verison 2 firmware upgrade. And that's cool.. So with the special "NAIL" trick you can easily pop that memory card right out of the enV and into your computer. Does your computer recognize the card though cause for some people, that's also been a big problenm. I'm glad to hear it's working for you though. That's some good news!

Actually I had a Sandisk reader that I got a few years ago from Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId =6781976&st=sandisk+reader&type=product&id=10 89890487405
I was kinda bummed that it wouldn't read the SDHC card; but then, as I searched on SanDisk's website, they offered a firmware upgrade for the reader!!!! So I didn't have to buy a new reader b/c the firmware upgrade for the reader now enables it to read the SDHC card. But my laptop's SD card slot still will not read the 4GB card. I may get the VZW reader for my laptop since it's so small; Dell doesn't have an update available for my laptop (yet) unfortunately; otherwise that'd be pretty cool! But to answer your question, yes, my desktop computer now can read/writ...

Wow ya know something, that's AWESOME! Good for you. So definitely the 4 GB MicroSD Card will work on the enV. I'm really glad to hear it. Like I said before, for now, i'm just happy w/ my 2 gb card and not sure if i'll need more space but it's always nice to know that the phone can support more storage space! So Verizon does sell the High Capacity Card Reader that the 4 GB Card would need in order to be recognized on the computer?
