I got in touch with our RAE, and he talked to the cingular motorola rep. They tried to make PTT work on this phone, but it would not cooperate with the Kodiak system. It seems that we will not have a Motorola PTT capable phone until 2nd quarter '06

hmm..altough I don't have any credible sources to rely on, I feel like that is not true (just my 2 cents). It is pointless for motorola to make a PTT capable phone and launch it exclusively for Cingular if the PTT won't work. And even if you get an unlocked version, TMobile doesnt have the PTT capability and Nextel uses different SIM cards. So the PTT button would be pointless for any situation. I don't know though, I could be wrong.

moto as well as sony will release ptt phones in the 2nd qtr of this year. There are 3 phones in testing right now from those companies. The only reason one hasn't been launced yet is because samsung and lg have an exclusive deal until march 31st..

O, and the sony has a camera 🙂

which information, the exclusive part, or the moto/sony part?

The exclusive part is well known throught the company.

The moto/sony parts come from the reps themselves.

O, and as far as I'm told, they are all new models... no duplicates of whats out now.

The 6102 however is being re-released with bluetooth. (which it should have had from the beginning)

Ya Cingular is releasing the Nokia 6103 which will be the 6102 with bluetooth. They are having a big selling push to get 6102 out of the locations to bring in the 6103. Rumor has it that this will be released APRIL 1st and may have ptt included into it also

no actually it's the 6102i that has bluetooth.

The 6103 I thought was for t-mobile...

the 6102i is supposed to be out before april.

As for the selling push, the only reason the phone is buy one get one free right now is because of the problem with the sony z520, which was the original bogo phone. The recall led us to subsitute the 6102.

Anyways, the 6102 should have had bluetooth from the beginning. I guess the mistake was finally realized, so they are upgrading the model.

I'm speculating here, but it's possible that there are European PTT systems that this is compatible with over seas.

This phone does not even have a PTT button. It is just a replacement (basically) for the ROKR E1.

Moto did not make it PTT for cingular because they support the POC PTT system. Cingular went and choset the Kodiak RTX PTT system instead of using POC. We will see phones later this year from Moto, Nokia, and Sonyericsson (all who supported POC from day one) but they have to adpapt their phones to the Kodiak system. My moto rep said we should see somthing 2nd quarter, Nokia rep said they were shooting for the same time frame. Ericsson rep said probably not untill 4th quarter ☚ī¸! Samsung and LG had phones ready to use on the Kodiak system.
