how to get a motorola a840
i currently have a samsung 650i i must return it because i dropped in in a pool i was hoping someone knew how i could upgrade to the a840 without paying full retail price. advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Go into a Verizon store and ask to have a Motorola A840 cell phone ordered for you. Thats the only way you will get one. They don't sell them via Telesales.

so why not get, say a moto razr v3 unlocked and have it GSM? Then you can just pop in a sim card and you dont have to pay for roaming?

Because you can only use the GSM network when you are out of the US and in other countries. In the US the phone HAS to be under the CDMA network because thats the network Verizon is on. Also Verizon SIM Cards are only compatible with Verizon Phones its a "Security" measure. Its a strict system thats why they aren't sold like regular phones.

Does this mean you can't use a Verizon SIM in another phone, or that you can't use any other SIM in this phone?

From my understanding the Verizon SIM cards have to be bought and activated through Verizon. If you buy the phone from Verizon it automatically comes with the SIM card. Than to activate the Verizon SIM card you have to call Verizon Global Technical Support and they will be able to do that for you. Some phones you can just enter a security code for the SIM card and it will be activated. This is not the case for Verizon SIM cards they have a number on the back of the card and you have to use that number to activate the SIM card. Verizon is very picky about their SIM cards because of security issues.
