Question for those keeping VZW service, but wanting $$ back to buy a new phone (option 3)

As the claims statement is written, it is extremely vague as to how much we will be refunded to spend on a new phone. Option 3 reads: "I want to return my Motorola V710 telephone, with or without acccesories, for a refund up to the purchase price of a new cellular phone, but keep my Verizon Wireless service."

To my eye, this implies that if we paid,say,$300 for our V710s when they first came out,we can choose option 3 and buy a $599 Samsung SCH i730 without paying the $299 difference in their purchase prices. This is nice, but doesn't make sense, unless their lawyers are idiots (no lawyer stab intended).

I imagine what it INTENDS to say is that we can use UP TO the total initial purchase price of our V710 towards a new phone. Thus, if we ...

I have been wondering the exact same thing. I hope it means we can get any phone we want, but i'm sure thats just wishfull thinking. If I had to guess I'd say you get up the amount you paid for your V710.

I Chose Option #3 then called verizon and explained the situation. He went back to August 04 and found that i paid $345, and assured me i would get no less than that amount (i also have 2 batteries), i dont knwo if this helps you, because the exact details will not be set until 1/6/06 at the earliest we may get more... hopefully no less and the suit will pass or whatever it does.

I could be wrong but I thought we had to send in the form with our choice by sometime in December. Also the form reads that once we have made a choice, we cannot change our mind. How can we make an informed decision if the details are not set until January 06??
I have a feeling that Verizon is going to have to clarify the details before we are required to send in the form.

Good thread, another question I forgot to ask - Has it been determined how the ne2 is handled? I used my ne2 to buy the 710. According to what I am reading in the settlement, the price we pay for a new phone is the same as a new customer. If I get an equipment credit does it include the $100 NE2?

From what I've read in other threads, the NE2 discount is not included in the refund. So if you paid $300 and got a $100 NE2 discount, your refund towards purchase of a new phone would be $200. This is only what I've gathered from this forum and certainly might change in the final filing of the claim.

Since the NE2 has value and was used, one would hope that the least that Verizon would do was to back out the purchase and let you use the NE2 again. I for one will wait and see how this goes and want to know the answer before choosing my option and sending in the form. I would hope that this is all clarified before the deadline for sending in the claim form. If they are going to take the NE2 credit, I will have to strongly consider option 2 over option 3.

Thanks! If that is the consistent reply we get from VZW, it makes sense and is very satisfactory.
