I was told by VZ tech support there was suppose to be a software update today for the Charge which is suppose to fix some issues.

Anyone else hear of know of this update? If so, what does it fix?

Now I Know Why Hardly Anyone Else Has Been Here

It's because people are dumping this piece of crap in droves!!!

After a SIXTH one started going kaflooey with all the lockups, freezes, intermittent lags going from screen to screen or making calls from the call log all to the point where it became unusable, I called Verizon (for about the 50th time since I became a Droid Charge owner, no joke, no exaggeration!) and they moved up my upgrade from next January to now. I walked into a VZW store and when those sales people who scoop you up on the way in said "Welcome to Verizon, How Can We Help You?" I held up this expensive paperweight as said "You Can Take This Piece of Chit Out Of My Life!" They all chuckled as if they knew where I was coming from.

I am now a Ver...

Who Let This Happen?

As being an old phone dog myself and being in the wireless industry for a better portion of my adult life... I remember when 99.9% of cell phones were "candy bar" style and Motorola attempted to claim that the flip form and factor was their patent ... The absurdity of this claim was laughed out of litigation and was never taken seriously by the courts.... And now this happens?

Why Apple winning is good news for Android

1) Handset makers who are actually innovating get more attention. Aside from Samsung, every other handset manufacturer is suffering, yet they're the ones spending a lot of money on R&D to distinguish themselves.

2) Samsung will have to improve the quality of their devices, as it's no longer acceptable to make creaky cheap plastic knockoffs of the iPhone, slap on a iOS-mixed-with-typical-Samsung-bad-taste skin, and call it 'obvious.'

2) Android, which has already been veering away from iOS for a couple years now in terms of UI conventions, now has to remain fully committed to its own course (which I think it will be much stronger for.) Think about how much better 'Holo' apps looks now than the cruddy ones we saw back 2 years ago.

Used to Love This Phone - NOT ANY MORE !

Now on my 5th unit in 14 months including 3 in the last month and a half. Verizon keeps sending me refurbished replacements, each with else something wrong. Have wound up wasting several hours every time setting it all up all over again. Worst battery life imaginable whether or not on 4G. Ever heard of a phone where you have to have 5 chargers and 3 batteries just to keep going? Locks up, shuts off, intermittent delays from a few seconds to SEVERAL MINUTES (no joke) when trying to make a call from the call log or going between screens. Half of my incoming calls wind up with a smashing static sound in my ear and/or just no voice at all. This model is an abortion and BOTH Samsung and Verizon should be ashamed to continue selling it.

Home keys

Hi I just purchased this Charge and so far I love it but have a minor gripe. Once the phone locks I try to "wake" it to unlock by pushing any one of the 4 keys on the front, nothing. The only way to "wake" it is by pushing power button. I had an LG Optimus and any button would wake . Is this normal for this model. Thanks in advance.

Phone Much More Stable Since ...

the Android 2.3.6 / Gingerbread update back on December 3rd.

Made even better since the over the air update released yesterday, thanks to which it now takes about ½ the time to restart when swapping out the battery.

It's apparent Verizon, Samsung, and Google read all the negative user reviews on this phone, got off their asses, and fixed just about everything, FINALLY!

Practically all the issues outlined in the negative owner reviews have been addressed to the point where I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this phone to anyone. Battery life of course still isn't that great, but that goes for all the Android phones, right?

Had To Have Mine Replaced

Got my Droid Charge back in May a week after it came out. Last week, the display started showing faint horizontal lines top to bottom. Verizon sent me another one.

After HOURS of trying to transfer everything, I realized backing up the phone's folders to your PC and then back via the USB cable is not enough. After several calls to tech support, I finally got a Verizon Tech on the phone that knew WTF he was doing. In order to SUCCESSFULLY backup and reinstall all your apps, call log, and text messages on the replacement phone, you have to download and install SMS Backup AND App Backup & Restore from the Market ON BOTH PHONES. Run both programs on the old phone to save everything to the SD Card. Then once the SD card is...

Has anyone been able to test this out yet?

I haven't been able to get video working. I'm testing it between me and my friend who both have Evo 4g.
