Samsung :) (Smiley) T359

I dont know if this is a network thing or what but every couple of hours the phone just beeps and the screen lights up and it says something real fast (goes away in a second).
It's actually quite annoying because I assume I'm being called or texted when I may be doing something else.
Anyone know what the cause is or how to stop it from doing this?

I'm going to feel really weird recommending a phone named smiley to any grown man. Maybe young girls would like it, but I don't think this one will sell well.
