Nokia 6230 Problem

I have had a Nokia 6230 for about a month now. Several times (about 6 or 7) I have noticed that my phone is powered off when I wake up in the morning. At first, I thought that I inadvertently turned it off. Nope! Plenty of juice in the battery too. Has anyone else experienced this problem and resolved it? Could it be software as well as a hardware failure? Thanks, Dave

Only once had I ever seen what you had described. The end result was because of a faulty SIM card. Just like everything else SIM cards start to get old and wear out. More so when you are taking the SIM card out and switching phones. The connections begin to wear out and the oils from your fingertips breakdown the integrity of the connections on the card. This is all from excessive and usually unnecessary handling. A simple remedy...gently clean your SIM card with an alcohol wipe and allow to completely dry prior to placing back into the phone. The connections on the phone could probably use a little cleaning as well. Otherwise, visit your provider and request a warranty exchange if you should come to the conclusion that it is indeed the hand...

I would be interested to know what Cingular did to screw up the software.

Thanks for your insight on the sim card. Yes, I purchased it directly from Cingular. Cingular said it is a "manufacturer's problem". As such, I need to contact Nokia directly. Nokia (customer service) said I should contact the closest repair facility. That was Action Cellular (a level 2 repair center) in Salt Lake, UT. Action Cellular indicated it is a software problem but there are no software updates for the Cingular 6230. However, a non-Cingular update for the 6230 is available. Action Cellular said I would most likely need to send my phone back to Cingular. Any new replacement would probably have the same problem. Lot of conflicting opinions...even within Nokia. Any hope forthcoming on this issue?

Cingular almost always blame the manufacturer. And yes when you do a warranty exchange you are only inheriting someone else's problem because they will ship you a refurb phone. Like most carriers Cingular will want to remove certain features and limit others. Why? Only the providers can answer that. In this case Cingular wanted to remove the IM feature from the 6230. But by doing so they apparently tweeked the software to the point where other programs/ features utilizing some of the files removed to become unstable and in most cases unusable. Thus causing a bad experience with the phone and leading the consumer to think the phone sucks but in actuality it is the carrier's software. Cingular is aware of the issue but has done little to remed...

I have the 6230 as well - and absolutely LOVE the phone, in spite of some of the same items mentioned on the board here. I have had it reboot when collecting email - but try and find another small GSM phone that gives the overall features this one does...very good phone.
One thing mentioned I would like to know more about. I moved from Cingular to Suncom...and lost email configuration. Suncom doesn't seem to know how to set it up - is their a similar Nokia phone? Also, where would I find the above mentioned firmware update? Nokia site?

Thanks
