Nokia 5200 and 5300...unlocked or not?

I have recently purchased the Nokia 5300 and 5200 from web sights that claim these phones are unlocked.

However neither phone will connect to Cingular's network. Further, neither phone is on Cingular's list of supported phones, so they can't or won't send the code to activate the phones.

What gives??? How can I work around this???

Um, there's a good chance you were partially lied to there. The 5200 probably is unlocked. However, it's a Euro triband. So if you're in an area where Cingular/AT&T is using mostly 850 then you won't have much luck finding a signal.

As far as the 5300, to my knowledge it's locked to T-mobile. And it's BB5...I haven't heard of anyone being able to unlock it.
