If I buy and EVDO phone. Will it still run 1XRTT in places that don't have that service yet?

Yes. Your phone, even though EVDO is set to have service on 1XRTT. It atomatically switches when it enters an EVDO market.

Yes. 1xRTT is Verizons "default" signal. If your phone is an EVDO capable phone, and you travel into an EVDO market, your phone will switch to EVDO. now it also depends on the phone model/area. Some ares might offer both EVDO and 1xRTT, then the phone will display EV/1x. If it is stictly EVDO, then it will display EVDO.

The good thing about EV-DO is that it is backwards compatible to 1xRTT just in case there might be a problem or problems with the EV-DO network. Yes, it will still run 1xRTT in places that there EV-DO is not there and as just mentioned if there are any problems with the EV-DO network it will go back to 1xRTT. Yes, all devices that Verizon and Sprint have default on 1xRTT first but if it there is an EV-DO signal, it will go to EV-DO first, however, if there are any problems with that signal it will go down to 1xRTT.

Hope that helps.
