If your 8100 has recently released software inside then you are lucky enough to need to buy the mobile music essentials kit for 29.99 at your local VZ corporate store. It will come with everything you need to convert and transfer your music files to your 8100. Sorry for the sarcasm...this is how my VZW rep explained it to me. If you have Windows Media 10 installed on your PC you can convert the files using that as well. That is really all of the software that VZ is going to sell you anyway.

if you have conversion software you can just change them to .wma files and they'll play no problem. just remember to put them in the MY_MUSIC (i think) folder. If you don't have software, go to www.download.com and download "Free Mp3 Wma Converter 1.4" http://www.download.com/Free-Mp3-Wma-Converte r/3000-2140_4-10505512.html?tag=lst-0-1

this should work for ya

if you have the new software for the 8100 the mp3 player is disabled. to enable it again from the main screen pres menu + 0. password is 000000. bottom option is music player, click it and enable mp3. when you are looking at the folders from your card reader copy them to the mp3 folder. make sure teh file name is under 20 characters. more than that and they won't show up on your playlist. to get the front controls to work for mp3 instead of vcast go into your menu, tools, shortcuts, play button, switch to mp3. any questions ask.

gps
from howardforums.

Press OK, 0, 000000 to unlock the service menu. (Be careful playing around in here. You can make changes that will render your phone unusable, and you'd have to restore defaults or bring it into the store and play, "silly bugger").

Press 2. Field Tests, 8. gpsOne, 1. gpsOne Test Screen, select "on", then OK.

Press end to exit menu.

Now dial 922, and hit send, and you *should* get a recorded Verizon message or something else, depending upon your area. (Some people get ESPN, some a radio station). The sreen will show your current lat and long after a few seconds, maybe half a minute.

This seems to be dependant upon what area you're in, and each area is different. Some folks get 911 when they try...
