getting Shop Talk back to its roots

Me: thank you for calling, how may I help you today?
Cmr: Hi, I know I dont have coverage, but i need to file a claim
me: Sir, we can not file claims for you if you have no coverage
Cmr: fine you con artist (hears cmr speaking to carrier rep in the background)
Cmr: ok i have insurance now file my claim
Me: ok.....may I ask when your phn was damaged, lost, or stolen
Cmr: yeah it was about 3 weeks ago
Me: (continues with claim as usual) ok sir it looks like your claim is not covered
Me: Well sir you did not have coverage at the time your device was damaged, therefore the damage is not covered by our insurance
Cmr: Youre a scam artist! Send me to someone spanish I can reason with them
Me: ok sir, right awa...

LOL...I get the scam artist thing when their data gets throttled.

Cmr: But I have unlimited internet!
Me: Data access is not blocked, sir. It gets throttled.
Cmr: Well...I need my internet at a normal speed.
Me: For $10 more....
Cmr: No! I'm not giving you scam artists another dime. Fix it.
Me: It'll get fixed at the beginning of the next bill cycle.

At that point, the phone hangs up violently.

I've been on the other side of this issue.

Yes, it's not a scam, but it's not an honest way of doing business either.

Unlimited data plans are no longer available here in Mexico, I have kept mine only because I refuse to upgrade my phone or change my plan in any way, therefore they can't force out of it, lol.

They still throttle my internet from time to time, but since I mostly access my web apps through my home Wi-Fi then it's all good.

Can't say I've beaten the system, but we are at a friendly stand-off.
