I generally kindly point out to them that if they purchased the phone through us and purchased our protection plan, we could give him right out of our display, but since he decided to purchase it elseware/chose asurion, he would need to use the website.
The best tool we have to selling the plan my store offers are customers like that who come in and realize how annoying asurion can be.
If you work at a corp store (one with a tech center) then be my guest and sell Asurion to your customers.
But when someone gets asurion around here, if they want to make an in store claim, they have to drive over an hour to the nearest tech center. It's one of the reasons we made our own protection plan.
Asurion is great for customers who live near a corp store, but if you are out in the middle of nowhere, don't expect the local indirect to pull out on of their new phones and hand it to you.
I guess my biggest issue with it is the way it is sold. People say "take it to any verizon store" which while technically correct, most customers assume an indirect is a "verizon store."
We don't put insurance on a phone unless the customer explicitly asks for it (asurion) and if they want it, they are told at least three times that they have to call in to make the claim.
