You're Breaking Up.

So I'm contentious today and get pretty annoyed when people interrupt me. In a call center they do it... A LOT.

They also ramble for ten minutes and don't give me a chance to answer their question... they need to shut their gab and listen...

So when a customer starts talking in the middle of what I am saying I shut my mouth completely and then wait about half a second after they are done before trying to repeat myself. If they keep cutting me off I keep letting the silence linger for a second after they are done. Once today I've actually said "Let me know when you are ready for me to answer. I don't want to interrupt you again." Which, unfortunately, I don't think she got.

But twice today I've had somebody say "You're breaking ...

That's one of my biggest peeves. If they would just shut up for a bit, their question/issue/concern would most likely be answered.

Yep. I've just made such a habit of stopping so suddenly that they think we're breaking up or something and then I let the silence linger a second to get the point across. It rarely works but I feel better.
