Question about word filter

Why can't I type
"if, a, girl" (minus the commas) but if I type i(***)irl it shows up as i***irl

The short answer: our profanity filter is imperfect.

I'm not sure it's possible to create a perfect one. And my definition of perfect is often going to be different than someone else's.

I'm happy that it works "well enough." It blocks most profanity, in most cases, with relatively few false positives.

True, I just found it strange that typing it with the asterisks for the letter would make it pop up with the original text I was wanting to type. Don't mind it, just caught me off guard.
