It amazes me how the wireless industry will go to any length to keep a customer under contract. Fortunately, I asked the right questions at Verizonwireless. This is what I learned. 1.) Billing will be done for the cost of the entire months useage regardless if you disconnect two days into your billing cycling 2.) If you change your minutes of monthly useage after a 6 month period you automatically get renewed and they extend your contract
3.) They will get $$$ ETF fee unless you stay with the same price plan from day one to the end of the 1 or 2 year you sign for
Great company - great products - lousy policies for 2006 - Billing for a full month vs prorate from the day of disconnection = $$$$for Verizonwireless and no savings for ...

1. Of course they will bill you for the month. If you wanted it to be for the day, you would have to pay day by day. You pay month to month, so you are charged for a month. Oh, and by the way, in the first 2 days, you actually won't be charged the full month. If it's within your buyers remorse period, I'm fairly certain VzW will prorate your use.
2. Yeah. That's called a plan upgrade. If you upgrade your plan, it means new contract. New contract means longer time.
3. Not true. Or at least, not worded correctly. You won't be charged ETF for switching price plans. The ETF will be charged any time you do not fulfill your contract. That's what it is......an EARLY TERMINATION FEE. Terminating early? Yup there's a fee for th...

I didn't think that all sounded correct... I had service with Verizon and the only reason (only reason) I switched was because I got a job with T-Mobile and (obviously) they can offer me a better deal. If we don't have service for a customer I refer them to Verizon. The care reps I have dealt with there were wonderful... they actually did not charge me the full price for the month but pro-rated me to the eleven days that I was on the plan at the end of my contract before I shut down the account. They were very nice about it and it left me thinking that if I needed to leave T-Mobile for any reason (not that I can think of any at the moment, I'm happy with my phone and am actually not on a dealer plan after all) I would go back to Verizon W...

Clarification - the point being is that Verizonwireless use to allow customers to "side up and down" within the promotion they had originally signed up for. (ex family plan 700 -1400 - 2100 and up to 6000 min plans) Changing the amt of min in a price plan never use to extend the contract as long as you stayed within the guidelines of your original promotion or contract (whatever you want to call it). I am not speaking of "features" like txt msging - I am referring to the monthly amt of minutes only. Features can be added or deleted at any time. This fact remains that after Feb 6th many policies with Verizonwireless are being changed and no one is allowed to "grandfather" what use to be. Other Feb 6th changes include the amt of money f...

- Only trust what's in writing, on official company letterhead!!!
Trust me, the wireless industry contract situation is nothing like CLEC (landline competitors) contracts.
Don't think 3 is worded correctly.
1.) Pretty standard, really... Cancel service @ the end of the billing cycle.
2.) Never agreed with this one, will not agree to a new contract for changing a rate plan because it's not worth it. Correct me if I'm wrong, however the last time I checked Cingular did not try to get folks to agree to new contracts for rate plan changes...

Actualy, if you are 6 months into a 1-year it will extend. If you are 1 yr into a 2yr, it will extend. If you are out of contract, it will also extend. Theres actualy a little box we check to renew the contract. I never check it though, ops?

We do if it's a promo plan, but we do offer non-promo versions of a lot of plans so you can change if you need to without that renewal. (in reference to 2)

Just had a guy come by and tell me about his Verizon horror story, He called in to see if he would be able to upgrade his phone without changing his plan. They said no it was too old of a plan he said thanks and hung up. A week later (now) he came into my store and asked me to port his number to someone else. I had him verify his contract was up and when he called he found out his contract was extended last week and he has another year to go.
Not saying this is standard practice just coinsidentally happened.
Side note, Alltel's current "push" is no contract changes. Anytime durring your contract you can change your plan without touching the contract. Also they dont extend the original contract on an account when adding a line to i...

Cingular used to do that same thing. They used to call it the "Cingular Promise"
They broke their promise.

Correction:
Cingular still does that. If you add a line, it is on a separate contract from the other line. Also, you can change your rate planor add any features anytime without extending your contract.

If you change your plan in the last half of your contract to a new promotional plan it extends your contract
