Why do they do this?
They run around and get a list of names and send home like 20 people in the morning and now we are massively in que so we aren't even allowed to have a resource up? Why do they do this, it happens like every day. Do they have no sense of pattern recognition... hmm... if I send home 20 people in about ten minutes we're going to to be short 20 people and then it's going to be a big problem. Maybe we shouldn't send them home.

I know two people that have worked in a Verizon store. One worked for Radio Shack (my company), and left us for Verizon. The other came from VZW to us. Both had the same drawbacks to say about it: too competitive. The one who came to us said it got to the point where they would have a weekly meeting, and the one who did the worst in a certain category (ie text messaging add ons) would have to do a presentation on how they "would improve." His interpretation: 'Stand up before the group and tell us how much you suck.'
But, these were just various grievances, and its mainly a cultural thing of how competitive one wants to be pushed.

First one: Have no idea, but it sucks they do that to you!
Second: I work for an indirect and depending on the store/company the pay can vary considerably!
For some it's straight commission, and some are hourly + commission.
You would have to find out more about the company or just go in there and ask one of the employees to get a better idea.

You would have more freedom at an actual store. I work for an indirect of Verizon and I get paid pretty well for our area. Can't hurt to apply. Most indirects won't let you OT and you will have the hour lunches again 😉 .

Well and one thing I loathe about this place is the lack of personal accountability. I want to be personally responsible for my customer even after they get set up, I want them to be able to come back to see me if they have problems, especially the ones like this little old (OLD, like 80 years old) lady I was just working with. I know she's going to need help later on and I want to be the one to do it, she was so sweet (if a little aggravating but still) With call center stuff you never have any follow through, you just place the order and are done.

That is one thing that you will get by being in a store vs call center. Hands on Customer contact. You will still get the wonderful ones that you comment on so well but there are so many more that don't act that way.

Glad to know your heart is in the right place. Those customers are the best. SOmetimes its hard to believe that there's people out there that have never had a phone before, but you get one like that its truly a wonderful experience.

verizon is run by nazi's they are HORRIBLE To work for....i worked for them directly quitting was the best thing i ever did....i work for cingular now.....which is better...more flexible....better money too....we just had a rep come here from verizon.....and he LOVES it here compared to verizon.....now indirect is differnt....personally i have never had a high opinion of indirect..but depending on company can be as good/better/worse...who knows...verizon does not give 2 ****s about their reps...that much i know...cingular isn't much better at this point...att was the best no question...my advice is find something altogether different to do!!!!
