Whats Happening to Nextels Network?

Since Sprint PCS and Nextel are merging there have been a few rumors surrounding the future if Nextel's network and their devices. Is Nextel abandoning all their iDen phones? Also, I heard that Nextel will eventually force all of their customers into CDMA Phones by the official name Nextel". I have been getting alot of questions about this and would like to know exactly what to tell customers. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Correct.

Nextel and Sprint cannot legally discuss those options until the government (FCC, Justice Dept, etc.) approves of the deal.

One thing to remember, the effect will not be drastic. Most customers will have the option to keep their phones long enough to get a reasonable life for their purchase. They won't be immediately "forced" to buy new handsets and via a natural upgrade process will be moved to any potential new equipment. Like the ATTWS/Cingular deal, customers who wish to take advantage of potentially better rates may need new equipment. Those customers usually will save enough on their new rate to pay for any new investment. Customers who feel they must keep their equipment 3 or more years may feel put off, but luckil...
