Cell phone radiation information.

The New ATnT Wireless

Dear Rich,

I have an idea for you. I love how you provide such detailed information on phones, etc, but one thing I noticed you don't list is the radiation level of each phone. I think posting the radiation levels of each handset would help consumers in their decision on a phone.

For example, I just went from my Motorola c168i which has a radiation of 1.44 to a RAZR which logs .89.

Here is a link to a cell phone radiation chart, in case you are curious:

SAR ratings is a common request. I have considered it several times, but there are specific reasons why I have decided not to include that information.

In general, it's not something that we feel most users should be concerned about. Where it might conceivably be relevant, it could be misleading.

For radiation/cancer concerns, all phones approved by the FCC meet strict limits that the government has determined are well within safe and harmless levels of radiation. There is real science behind that finding. While years ago there was some concern over the health effects of analog phones, today's digital phones typically output a fraction of the radiation compared to analog; there is little dispute that digital phones are safe.

Thank you for that excellent response. It was not my intention to feed anyone's paranoia, but I thought it would be helpful for people who do feel a concern towards finding a phone with the lowest SAR rating.

It is good to know that digital phones today are a lot safer than analog phones back in the day!

Take care now.

Rich makes a good point, BUt i also feel there is plenty in the community who will be paranoid no matter what the case! at work we put a radiation detector against a treo 650 in call that made it skyrocket into the danger zone, on the slvr L7 it stayed in the green, just a little FYI

Typically smartphones have better antenna systems in them, so they put out a bit more signal. My blackberry on att does it enough to make a nice interference noice with my tv.
