Anyone heard about 3 watt phone from Alltell?

Hi.

I am on a fire department in West Virginia and our fire trucks have the old Digital or TDMA phones form the Cellular One area (they were bought out by AT&T I believe) and are now through Cingular.

We need a mounted phone to replace these so we can get off of this old service. We talked with Alltel and they tell us that they have a new 3-watt bag phone that can be mounted. HAs anyone heard about these or know what the model is or anything? I didn't think to ask when we talked to them ther other day.

Apparently is has a built-in 3-watt booster.

Let me know.

Thank you

Yes, Allel has the new digital bag phone made by Motorola. I think the model number is m800.

Cell One had a few GSM markets and those went to Cingular/ATT, but on the whole, most of their holdings went to Alltel. USCC got half of Kansas and most of Nebraska out of the deal, so that was a good thing.

I work in the alltel store in teays valley. We are getting the motorola bag phone that they mentioned, but as far as I know it will be an order item. If you are very interested call into my store or whatever local store is around and see if they can find you one to demo.

We spoke to the store in Kanawha City but they didn't seem know to much if anything about the phone except that they could order one.

The also said it could be fixed mounted in a vehicle (not in the bag) with a handset. Can you confim this?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I believe what they were trying to tell you about is what I sell alot of. I work as an authorized agent in Nebraska. I sell what is called a 3 watt booster, a antenna to be put on top of the vehicle it is going on, and a hand held phone. The one that we usually sell to go with this is the Motorola V262, but that is on the end of life so I would go with the Motorola E815. From the booster a cord would come out and connect to the phone. You could also put a hands free kit in your truck. That sounds more like what you were talking about than the Motorola M800 digital bag phone. But either one of those ways would probablly work for you. If you have anymore questions let me know.

This phone is not 3 watt unless you add a 3 watt booster. It is also not new. The Cellular One (WWC) stores were carrying this phone before the alltel aquisition. When the stores rebranded to alltel the phones were pulled. They have now been loaded with alltel software and include all of the extras (battery, dc/ac adapter, privacy handset, usb data connection and external microphone). Every alltel store that wanted them now has them in stock.

you are correct, as it appears, if you go in and look up the specifications, it does say .25w in cdma, and .4w in amps. What is the output of regualar hand held phones, as the home page says 3 times the distance. I was getting excited for a minute. Looks like I will be staying with my 3 watt booster, that works great now.

So, unless someone proves this is a 3 watt phone, I would suggest to the OP to get the 3 watt booster and go that route, they work great, I would not go without mine, I can talk in places other people get no service.
